The EDAIC Part II is a high-stakes, structured oral examination organized by the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC), typically held between February and November across various international centers. It serves as the final component of the European Diploma in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care.
🧠 Exam Format:
Conducted in one day, consisting of four separate 25-minute viva sessions.
You are examined by eight different examiners, two per session—typically one local and one international.
Topics span both basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, physics) and clinical medicine (clinical anesthesia, intensive care, emergency medicine).
Two of the sessions assess basic science, and two focus on clinical scenarios, often supported by radiological images (X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound).
For each session, candidates receive a 10-minute written case prompt before examination (Guided Questions method).
Each topic within the sessions is scored 0–1–2, with a total of 80 points possible across all sessions.
